Our Safety Management Specialist - Austin Healey

Previously employed as a Safety Management Systems Specialist with CAANZ, including international representation with the Safety Management International Collaboration Group (SM ICG), I’ve been involved with all aspects of SMS implementation, including rule development, provision of guidance material, internal training and assessment, industry education and outreach, and certification of organisations.

As a practitioner within the civil aviation system, I’ve held safety and quality manager roles within airline and maintenance organisations, was a line maintenance controller with a European regional airline and had hands on experience as a licensed aircraft maintenance engineer. I’ve also served as a helicopter technician and Non-Commissioned Officer within the military for ten years.

I have proven experience with implementing and maintaining management systems in aviation, having been involved with Safety Management Systems (SMS) since 2007. I can confidently say I’m skilled in aviation safety management and airworthiness, with a broad technical knowledge that includes legislative & regulatory matters and business systems, both civil and military. I make it a priority to effectively communicate with a broad spectrum of the industry, from small to large organisations, with the ability to tie topics together with relevant practical examples that the audience can relate to. It’s engaging with people and the fulfilment I get from being assigned to help others develop their skills and how they view safety, that has lead me to making myself available to do just that in a way that works, through SMSWORX.
